Why it is Important to Take a Break

You’re studying for a test and want to make sure that you review all the topics. The essay isn’t quite right, and you want to check it over. While it might be tempting to keep studying and working, it might be helpful to step away from the material and take a break.

Benefits of Taking a Break

Taking a break can help you both physically and mentally. It is recommended to take a short break every hour to stretch and move around a little. This can help reduce any muscle pain or tension. Looking away from the computer at an item 20 feet away for 20 seconds can help reduce eye strain and maybe even headaches. Going outside, doing a fun activity, or moving around for a few minutes can help energize you and refocus.

Also, it can be helpful to take a break when you are struggling to understand a concept. You might be able to come back more refreshed, with a clearer mind, with a new perspective, and a new strategy to tackle the problem.

If you are having trouble figuring out what schedule works best for you, it can be helpful to talk to someone else, including your tutor, for tips and strategies. Some people also set reminders on their phones to let them know when it is time to take a break or stretch.
