Frequently Asked Questions for Volunteer Tutors

  • What is Tootor?
Tootor is a project by NewArts Toronto, a charitable organization dedicated to expanding the horizons of children and youth through the arts, education and innovation, that is designed to help children reach their potential through our online tutoring platform. • How does the tutoring process work?
Our tutoring process involves a student receiving one-on-one instruction from a tutor who is an expert in the subject the student needs help with. The process typically begins with an initial assessment to determine the student's current level of understanding and to identify areas that need improvement. Based on the assessment, the tutor will create a customized lesson plan that addresses the student's specific needs. During the tutoring sessions, the tutor will work with the student to explain and reinforce key concepts, answer questions, and provide feedback on the student's progress. The student will be expected to actively participate in the tutoring process by completing homework assignments and asking questions. The tutor will also be able to provide guidance on study skills and test-taking strategies, as well as offer additional resources to help the student succeed.

All of our tutors are volunteers who want to earn high school community service hours and post-secondary credits for the hours they teach. Our volunteer tutors come from a variety of backgrounds and have a wide range of skills and experience. The $10 monthly subscription cost and donations we receive help cover our operating costs, such as maintaining our platform and paying for the resources and tools that tutors use. We strive to keep our costs low so that we can make our service accessible to as many students as possible.
